Boyup Brook Recreation Master Plan

The Shire has been working hard to create a practical Recreation Master Plan. While the plan is not intended to lock in any specific concepts, it does outline a broad development proposal for the area.

A key requirement when applying for funding from State or Federal agencies is the ability to present an adopted master plan. This gives funding bodies confidence that the overall layout of the area has been carefully considered and that the proposal is feasible.

At the Ordinary Council Meeting on 31 October 2024, the Council endorsed the attached Draft Recreation Master Plan for community consultation.

The overall layout has not changed significantly from the current arrangement of fields and buildings. The master plan has been divided into five zones: Zone 1 (Music Park), Zone 2 (Hockey/Events), Zone 3 (Aquatic Centre), Zone 4 (Oval Precinct), and Zone 5 (Tennis).

After considering several options for the Recreation Centre location (old footy club), the existing club location was identified as the most viable and has already received Federal funding. The Shire has also submitted a grant application to the State Sport and Recreation Department based on this location, with an outcome expected early in 2025.

While no decisions have been made regarding the phases of delivery, the renovation of the Recreation Centre, including the addition of change rooms, has been identified as Phase 1. Any future phases will take into account feedback from you and the wider community.

The proposals included in the master plan (in no particular order) are as follows:

  • Future indoor multipurpose courts.
  • Upgrade of existing outdoor courts.
  • Future upgrade to the hockey building and spectator area.
  • Future children’s play area.
  • Future upgraded cricket training nets.
  • Improved accessibility between playing fields.
  • Future upgrades to the tennis courts.
  • Improved parking areas.

Please note that, as a master plan, individual costings have not been obtained for each proposal. These proposals will require further detailed planning before they reach the development stage. The master plan serves primarily as a document to show the estimated locations of various amenities, as required by funding bodies.

The Shire is seeking community feedback on the draft master plan.  To view the draft plans, please click HERE.  Please submit your feedback to the Shire by mail or email shire@boyupbrook.wa.gov.au with Draft Recreation Master Plan in the subject line by close of business, 13 January 2024. Please note comments on social media do not form part of the feedback process. Following the consultation period, a report will be submitted to the Council to consider your feedback and potentially adopt the master plan.
