    Public Question Time

The Shire of Boyup Brook encourages community participation in local government and welcomes questions from residents and members of the public at Council meetings.

Public Question Time provides an opportunity to ask questions about matters affecting the Shire and gain a better understanding of Council's activities and decisions.

How Public Question Time Works

15 minutes is allocated to Public Question Time during Council meetings. At Ordinary Council Meetings, Public Question Time takes place immediately after 'Responses to Previous Public Questions Taken on Notice'.

To help ensure everyone has an opportunity to participate, the following guidelines apply:

  • Members of the public are generally limited to two questions per person, at the discretion of the Presiding Member (the person chairing the meeting).

  • When asking a question, please state your name and locality, then keep your question clear and concise, with minimal introductory information.

  • Questions should relate to matters affecting the Shire. At Special Council Meetings, questions must relate to the purpose of that meeting.

  • Questions received without prior written notice may be answered at the discretion of the Presiding Member.

Submitting Your Questions

To allow sufficient time for an informed response, members of the public are encouraged to submit their questions in writing to the Chief Executive Officer by 4.00pm on the day before the meeting.

Written questions should be signed by the person submitting them.

If a question requires further research, it may be taken on notice, with a response provided following the meeting. Written questions may also be answered through normal Shire correspondence.

A summary of questions and responses may be included in the Council meeting minutes.

Public Question Time Form

To assist with submitting your questions, we encourage you to complete the Public Question Time form.

Important Information

Members of the public should not take action based on matters discussed at a Council meeting until written confirmation of the final Council resolution has been received.

    Committees of Council

Council committees play an important role in supporting the Shire of Boyup Brook by reviewing matters, providing advice and making recommendations to Council.

Committees help Council consider specific areas of responsibility in greater detail, ensuring that relevant information and advice are taken into account when making decisions.

The Shire's committees do not have delegated authority to make decisions on behalf of Council. Instead, their recommendations are presented to Council for consideration and approval.

Council may choose to accept a committee's recommendation, make changes, request further information or defer a decision for further consideration.
