Rylington Park Livestock Count Update
The Shire would like to share with the community an update following questions raised about the livestock figures reported for Rylington Park in the 2024/25 Annual Report. This 2024/25 report showed a variance of 1,177 livestock.
The Shire had identified variances within the livestock records and had planned to undertake a review following completion of the livestock count for the 2025/26 financial year. That count has now been completed, and the Shire has undertaken a preliminary review of livestock records for the 2024/25 and 2025/26 financial years to better understand the variance reported.
The preliminary review has identified the following for the 2024/25 livestock count:
- Approximately 685 ewes were not counted (due to the movement of sheep during the count, 1 mob wasn’t brought in and was excluded from the count).
- Approximately 341 hoggets were incorrectly recorded as lambs. (In the year that they are born, lambs are not included in the total livestock count for Local Government biological asset reporting purposes, as they are deemed not to have a commercial value at the time. As these 341 sheep remained recorded as lambs rather than being reclassified and counted as hoggets, they were excluded from the total livestock count).
- The approximate 151 remaining stock variance relates to livestock losses/deaths.
The preliminary review has provided the Shire a much clearer picture of the livestock records at Rylington Park.
A detailed review and final livestock count will be completed and included as part of the Shire’s 2025/26 Annual Report.
