Bushfire Update – McAlinden–Bowelling Road

Incident Overview
A bushfire was reported between 4:20pm and 4:30pm on Sunday 4 January along McAlinden–Bowelling Road in the Shire of Boyup Brook. The fire started from two separate ignition points on the roadside and spread into nearby DBCA bushland.
The incident has affected the following local government areas:
• Shire of Boyup Brook
• Shire of Collie
• Shire of West Arthur
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Response
Shire Bushfire Brigade resources were redirected to the McAlinden property at approximately 7:30pm, with around 30 Shire Bushfire Brigade units, including all available heavy units, attending the scene.
Control of the fire was handed over to DBCA at around 11:00pm, with Shire Bushfire Brigade vehicles clearing the area by 11:30pm.
Current Status (5 January)
• 4–5 Boyup Brook units remain on site assisting with mopping-up operations
• Operations are being led by the McAlinden Bushfire Brigade Captain, with possible support from West Arthur units
• DBCA is monitoring the northern boundaries of the fire ground
Weather & Outlook
Weather conditions are currently favourable, and the situation is expected to remain manageable should any re-ignition occur.
