Census night is Tuesday 10 August and I wanted to share some important information and resources about the Census. You may have already been contacted by our local Census staff.

The 2021 Census

The Census counts every person and household in Australia. The information collected in the Census helps inform important services and support for people and communities right around Australia. The data from the 2021 Census will be more important than ever. It will provide valuable insights into how the pandemic has changed life in Australia.

Every person in Australia needs to be included in the Census, so that Census data is as accurate as possible. This includes visitors to Australia, international students and babies.

Help for your community

We’ve developed a Stakeholder Toolkit to support you in getting your community Census-ready. The toolkit includes:

  • social media posts and tiles
  • videos
  • information sheets and posters
  • resources for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • resources for migrants and refugees.

All the resources are available for you to download, share and will hopefully help you answer questions from your community.
Please visit the Census website for more information about support available to complete the Census.

Keeping the community safe during COVID-19

The health and safety of the community and our staff will continue to be our highest priority. We’re closely monitoring the developing situation across multiple states and territories and will adapt our approach to suit local circumstances. Visit the Census website for the latest updates.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your Census contact or email census.outreach@abs.gov.au. You can also follow us on Facebook for up to date information.
We look forward to working with you to ensure everyone is included in the 2021 Census.
